Gettin' the game ball

Hot Rod finally got the game ball last night. He played well. The whole team played well, which was nice. They won 15-10. Hot Rod went 3 for 3 at the plate, but a couple of those he got pretty lucky. One was a genuine hard hit that went right through the second baseman's legs, but he played great in the field like this good stetch at first. If you look closely, you can see the ball in the pocket of his glove.
And, with his coach after the game with the gameball. Look at that goofy grin. He's really happy. It was nice for him, too, that his grandparents and brother and sister were all this game, too.

Congrats to Hot Rod . . . as an old youth-league coach, I did immediately think when I saw the shot of his stretch at 1B . . . Hot Rod will be more comfortable, and get more out of his stretch, if he gets in the habit of putting his RIGHT foot back on the bag.

I'll bet AoD has already mentioned this to him.

Mention is a nice way to put it. I have played some first base and I was (and probably still am) able to do the splits there to get a runner. Always with my right foot on the bag. I even have him warm up before innings where he plays first by doing his footwork correctly. To no avail once the ball is put in play. I know his coaches have talked with him about it and we have another rightie who does it as pictured as well...that is what youth baseball is for-teaching.

I have to comment on that field! Is that actually a grass infield?? Pretty spiffy!
