Scary costumes

Trying to find something to do for Stinkerbelle's third birthday party next month and was hoping for inexpensive and AWAY from home. No such luck. Finally decided to have it at the house (which means cleaning before and after, which sucks) but it will be cheap and the kids will have fun.

We're going to make it a costume party (since Halloween is around the corner). I'll just put up the Halloween decorations that I have, so that is one challenge down. Poor child always has a Halloween themed birthday party. She will hate that when she's older, I fear. Such is life.

She already has a Minnie Mouse costume I bought several years ago at a thrift store when she was a baby. I had planned on selling it on ebay, but it was too cute and like new, so I saved it in case she'd like it. She LOVES Mickey and Minnie, so it will be perfect.

So, now I have to find costumes for the boys. Pickle wants to me Mega Man, but I can't find any costumes big enough for him, so he is out of luck on that. On a similar note, one of my coworkers said her 9-year-old daughter wanted to be a goth vampire for Halloween. But, listen to this costume description: Includes lace tube top, velvet hot pants, vinyl and lace overdress with ties and lace glovettes. Child size, (7 - 9). Uh, no. ANything that says "tube top and hot pants" is not going on a daughter of mine if I'm big enough to keep her from putting it on! Good grief.

Luckily, I only have a boy and won't have to deal with the "tube top and hot pants" problem. I volunteered at my son's school on picture day last week (to help them comb their hair and sit up straight), and was appalled at what some of the parents let their children wear to school for pictures. The second-grade girl with the acrylic fingernails and French manicure was the topper.

    I'll second that.

    *shakes head*

Turning them into strippers before they reach their 5th birthday. Christ.

Maybe use the ballerina outfit your Mom bought for her and jazz it up with some netting and stuff?

Not sure if any of you saw this story last year:

This was about a place that was selling child-sized "pimp and ho" costumes...I KID YOU NOT!!! The story has some pictures, but the place is pretty much offline. This is just part of how some people are trying to exploit the over-sexualization of children as normal.

It is amazing what parents will allow their kids to wear in their everday life, but sometimes its easier to let MTV dress your kid...I think talkshow host Glenn Beck calls them "Prostitots"...he is pretty much dead on!!

I'm taking my boys to the thrift store this week to see if they can find a costume they like, so we can avoid the $20 and $30 jobs.
