Bad guys beware

Went to try out my new 38 special Saturday at the shooting range. It is a little different shooting revolver than it is Army of Dad's 40-cal. I prefer shooting his gun and I'm getter at shooting his gun. But, nonetheless, bad guys should beware: one shot, center of mass.

Of course, here is me with my new gun.

And, of course, Army of Dad with his.

Hardly anyone on the pistol range with us. Everyone was down setting the sights on the rifle range for deer season, which always opens around my birthday. They had a waiting list down there.

Ahh, the smell of gun powder.

Instead of "gunpowder" you could say "cordite" to sound all gun savvy next time ;o)

Nice shot. I noticed that you didn't post a picture of multiple shots on a target. Getting wide groups with our new, unfamiliar pistol? *chuckle* Actually, short barrels are confusing at first. Just a tiny adjustment to the sight picture (front sight in relation to both the target and the rear sights) makes a huge difference in shot placement because of the short barrel. Longer barrels are more forgiving, but forget about concealing them.

    Ouch, that hurt.

I shot ok with it. I tended to go way right with it, but I think we figured it out - the grip on the gun isn't the style that feels best in my hands, so I was holding it sort of weird and firing right. I actually did ok, but WAY better with the 40.

I do have a shot with the shot up silhouette, so pphtphphphptttt!!! I just didn't want to put it up. Toot-head.

Of course AoM neglected to say that she found what she wants for Christmas...a SW99 in .40S&W. It fit her hand really well and as much as she prefers autos to revolvers (plus I like the fact she will have more shots before needing to reload) it will have to follow me home in time for Christmas. I can buy her some hi-cap mags for stocking stuffers!

Oh and Honey, why don't send off for your CHL packet?

That looks like the gun range up north of Ft. Worth just w. of I-35. Dove Creek? Quail Creek? I think it had a bird-sounding name. Haven't been up there in ages. It was easier to go to Alpine when I lived in Arlington, and DFW Gun Range when I moved to Carrollton.

I think I was in second grade the last time I heard anyone called a "toothead". OMG, I'm picturing kids on the playground running around in those brown fuzzy hooded coats that made them look like little polyester bear cubs. Too much nostalgia. I think I'm getting a nose bleed.

Capitan: I think that's the one.

Good memory EC. It is Quail Creek.

It is closer for us than DFW or the one in Plano (forgot the damn name). There is one about twelve miles east of here but I prefer Quail Creek (not sure why).

Very cool. Looks as though several of us were with the NoR in spirit this weekend, what with our own "gun thing" outings.

I think it's especially neat how here you were, shooting a revolver that once belonged to the Gun Guy, on the same day he's being honored with the gift of a new one (rifle, actually). I'm sure AoD has shown you the recent posts on the main page and the forums. GG's reaction was priceless.
    Enjoy that .38, AoM. It's a beaut!
