In God's Arms

My boy endured the grueling 2.5 hour Easter Vigil mass Saturday night and now is officially an adult in the Catholic church. He had his first communion and confirmation. I was proud of him for hanging in there. He had a great sponsor from our church. If you look up Catholic in the dictionary, there is a picture of DG there. He is part of the Knights of Columbus, is one of the ushers at mass and is really involved. He helped with RCIC - Rite of Christian Initiation for Children - and that is how Pickle met him.

Funny, Pickle was very nervous before the ceremony. Here is a shot of him looking quite apprehensive right before mass.

We entered with candles lit into a dark sanctuary. It was beautiful. If it he mass wasn't so long, I'd go every year.

There is the pasqual candle being lit. From it all other candles were lit.

Here he is with his sponsor.

and, here is me with my mom before mass, too.

And, during mass, we are so bad. My mom and AoD and I are all smart alecks cracking jokes at inappropriate times. Here is my son and his sponsor getting ready for his annointment with oil as he's confirmed. Check out the kid in the white tux behind them.

The kid walked by and AoD leaned over and said "The plane! The plane!" My mom and I lost it. Unfortunately, this poor kid walked in front of us at least five times and every time we came unglued laughing. I'm laughing now just thinking about it. I didn't get many pictures, but Uzz has some and when I get them, I will post them. We were all so tired after mass that I only took one picture of Uzz and Pickle and it was in my car!

Notice how he ditched the tie? The Target gift card in his hand helped his tired nature, too. He loved his crocheted cross and stickers from Mrs DOF, too. Many thanks to you, dear lady. I gave him a crucifix and a new Bible. My baby is growing up.

The second picture looks like the priest-dude-guy farted and someone lit it. *snickers*

Okay, Labkat, I went back and checked and sho nuff--the flame! the flame!

You all are quite welcome for the crochet.
I know it looks special, and maybe it is, but I've done hundreds of them gone out over the last 30 years.

My cousin had a mass for her wedding in a church without air conditioning. I was a bridesmaid. I know the loss of energy, and the satisfied feeling when all is said and done and worthwhile.
