Ewwww

While taking a short walk with my honey in our neighborhood tonight, we encountered one of these ugly little creatures. He ran across the road in front of us and then seemed to be walking the same direction we were (except he was in our neighbors' yards). It was really disgusting.

Yuck. I had never come that close to a live possum before. Dead ones, yeah. Live ones, no. Why couldn't it have been a cute little bunny or something? (I feel like Ron Weasley saying that. LOL)

I think they are cute! Well...as long as they keep their distance.

As fierce and disgusting as they look, fortunately they aren't aggressive and won't hurt you (thank goodness). I hate them too...and have gotten WAY closer to one than I would like too.

A few years back I lived in the middle of a big city, and I had a detached garage. The garage was old, it leaned badly, and any critter or other could come and go. And Opossums were always coming and going. One afternoon I walked out there to get something off one of the shelves, and there on the shelf I was headed for was a mama Opossum, with a dozen little naked babies attached to her teats. I totally freaked out, went in the house and called animal control. They assured me she'd be gone by morning, that she'd likely just given birth and the babies and her would go as soon as they got in the pouch.

Animal control was right. But I never went into that garage alone again!! Ewww!!

Wait until you get one pissed at you and it's showing you a mouthfull of needles for teeth.

When my dad was a little boy, his father taught him how to grab a possum and break its neck quickly. they got a nickel for the pelts in the winter. He said that was a hard-earned nickel ;-)

Okay, you've lowered yourself to putting pictures of William Shatner on your blog. You can go no lower.
