Duck season opener

Army of Dad got a mallard with his first shot. He called it quits early because we have soccer about lunchtime. We didn't get to go on our date because something else came up, but maybe tonight. My mom is watching the kids over night and LabKat and I are going to hang out Sunday while AoD goes to hunt some more Sunday. Funny thing is that child No. 1 was getting a great kick out of holding the dead duck by his neck. What is really amazing about this is that this is the same child who would run to me whenever his hands were dirty. Look at this smile.

I filleted the breasts off. I took the legs and some other large bones and made a stock out of them. The leg meat and the stock will be duck soup later this week. Any suggestions for the breasts? Keep in mind that AoM does not like gamey tasting meat so I am always trying new ways to cook what I kill.

It is always wabbit season in Texas (they are not considered a game animal here, so like feral pigs can be shot year-round). However I always wait until after the first good freeze before I hunt them.

    AoD

I shot a mallard on the wing with a scoped .270 Winchester when I was 12. Clipped a wing pretty as you please, didn't spoil any meat. Dumb luck, but dad still talks about that shot :)

Do you mind if AoM shoots me your email? She has mine.
