And I show them my index and middle fingers!

Bonus points for anyone other than AoM (and Gadfly) who knows why that is an insult.

hmmm, weren't those the fingers they used to taught their bows and when they were captured they'd cut them off of the archers so when the archers returned to their native countries then they'd show them those fingers to taunt them?

But that's just my guess haha

Wasn't that also the source of a phrase associated with that gesture? Seems to me the English referred to that as plucking ewe (sp?) when the archers were doing their thing.

On another note, isn't it ironic that we are celebrating our mates across the pond just days after our celebration of our forefathers telling them to get out?

Gotta give the french a little credit for the crescent roll. AoD, do you know the history behind that?

It was a sign of disrespect to the Moors who attacked Spain & southern France a long time ago. Not sure when but I think it was sometime well after the fall of the Roman Empire. The Moors were Muslim and the star and crescent being a symobol of their faith. It supposedly pissed them off to see that being eaten. Guess if they wanted to get similar revenge on us they would make baked goods to look like a cross or star of David. Enough history for the day.
