Has CMA sipped the lefty kool-aid?

Maybe, just maybe, it isn't some sort of slight. But, I think it speaks volumes that Toby Keith had six nominations and Alan Jackson had seven nominations for County Music Association awards and neither won a single award. In case you're not a country music fan, these good ole boys are patriotic fellows who proudly wave the red, white and blue. Ok, but that isn't where my conspiracy theory comes in. What seals the deal for me is that pinko Jane Fonda-lovin Kris Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He was even introduced by his pot-smoking tax-evading buddy Willie Nelson.

Kristofferson thanked the late Johnny and June Cash "for endorsing me back when nobody knew me and defending me later when everybody did and for standing up for truth and justice and human rights." I may upchuck at any moment. Where was his good pal Barbra Streisand from "A Star is Born?" Yuck.

Thank God we live in a country where these doofuses (or would that be doofi?) can spout off their crap and people like me can smell a conspiracy.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but give me my country artists back when they were true to their music and not "pop stars"... long before Garth Brooks put on a headset microphone and decided that country concerts needed pyro. Yes Toby Keith and Alan Jackson may have written patriotic songs but being the skeptic I am I think they did it more to pander to their audience than out of pure expression. Hell, I'm surprised Toby Keith hasn't come out with a Tribute to Dale Ernhart cd. Give me Willie, Waylon and the boys (the great Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins and even Jerry Jeff Walker). Musician's political views have no bearing on my enjoyment of their craft. They have an opinion and they are free to express it, just as they are free to be dead wrong in their thinking... whether they be Natalie Maines, Bono, Springsteen or any of the other bleeding heart types.

Nashville makes me sick... being able to fit into leather pants and look good in a wife beater shouldn't be a pre-requisite for selling cds. You can have your Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw ... I'll take the late Keith Whitley and the still keeping it real George Strait any day.

    End of rant :)

I would rather not know the political leanings of my favorite musicians and performers. I'd like to enjoy your music without thinking what a putz you are when you're not behind the microphone. I think Toby Keith started with good intentions, but now I think he pushes it a bit. Alan Jackson, I genuinely don't think that him. I just get really fed up with the Natalie Maineses and Kris Kristoffersons of the world.

I just can't help but think that the CMA folks were sending out a message. And, ppthpthptttt, I like Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw - even if they didn't wear wife-beaters and leather pants.

Shh, I like Marty Robbins, too. I can listen to oldschool country music all day. I grew up on that stuff.
