You May be a Texan if ...

Tamales are considered part of a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

or

You consider a Christmas without tamales to be lacking considerably.

With that said, our school is taking orders for Christmas tamales as a fundraiser. Mmmmmm. I loves me some tamales with Army of Dad's chili on top. Mmm mmm good.

This will just prove how stuck in the midwest I am - what is a tamale - do you mean the candy?

Fantastagirl - it is a Mexican dish made with masa and beef. Ohmigosh is it tasty. Here is an idea of what it is and how it is made:

It's a meat roll-up; spread corn dough onto a corn husk and then lay down a strip of cooked, chopped or ground meat filler (refried beans also work). Roll it up and steam it for an hour or so.

Very not healthy but so very good.

We have tamales every Christmas when the in-laws come down from Jersey. Pa-in-Law may be a (literally) Brooklyn Jew, but he loves him some tamales.
