Take me out to the ballgame

Hot Rod tore it up tonight. The boy went 3 for 3 with a bona fide double (two of the hits were to centerfield and one was an infield hit he legged out.) Then, he kicked some serious ass - for a 7-year-old - at shortstop making a great catch (caught on film, no less) and a wonderful stop on a hard-hit grounder that he shagged and came up with a helluva throw to first to get the kid out.

He got the gameball from Coach Studboy, too. Gave me a good excuse for a really nice picture of the two of them. *ladies, can you see why I like this sport so much? One of the other coaches is a hottie, too.*

Our little team is now up to .500 ball after starting the season 0-3.

It was a great catch. That is Coach Studboy's son playing second in the background. I promise that isn't a Skoal can in my boy's backpocket. It is a "Defend Freedom" camo rubber bracelet the National Guard guy gave him at the Fourth of July parade in BFE, Minnesota.

Here he is crossing home even though the run didn't count because the hitter was out at first for the third out of the inning. But, I liked the look of this with the flag in the background. The only thing to make this more American would be an apple pie and hot dogs for the postgame snack and riding home in a Chevrolet. (AoD will be too young to remember those summertime commercials when the jingle was "Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet.")

Not too shabby for a kid in his second season of any kind of ball and his first in coach pitch. He is playing with 7- and 8-year-olds with an occasional 6-year-old here and there. But, he is one of the better players on the team. Can't tell I'm a proud mama, can you?
