Boy nabs his first duck

Hot Rod shot his first duck this morning - a green wing teal. He was stoked and very proud of his accomplishment. It was the youth opener, so dad didn't take any shots.

Way to go, kiddo!

RANGERS IN THE WORLD SERIES

I may be one of the happiest women in the world today. My beloved Rangers have FINALLY made it to the World Series. I was watching the game in disbelief last night and when PayRod made the final out, I burst into tears. I couldn't control it. I couldn't believe it. The Rangers did it. They finally did it.

I almost hyperventilated, then calmed down and then burst into tears of joy once again.

Army of Dad: I can't believe you're crying. You didn't cry when you gave birth to your children.
Army of Mom: Yeah, but I did that three times. This is a first for me!

Happy 8th Birthday Little Bit!

Happy birthday to my sweet baby girl. I can't believe its been 8 years since God blessed me with your care. You are such a gift from God that I can't understand how I was so fortunate to have such a lovely, smart, talented and loving child. You are the light of my life. I know it means something when I call you by my BFF's name and call her by your name. I love you, Little Bit. Have a wonderful 8th birthday.

A few things to pass along

A PR consultant friend of mine shared some projects with me that aren't applicable to my publications, but I thought were worth sharing. Here ya go:

ZocDoc (http://www.zocdoc.com), the website to find doctors and book appointments online instantly, today launched in the greater Dallas metropolitan area. The company's move to Dallas marks its fifth major city in an aggressive national launch that has already been a huge success in Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

The company also announced availability of its ZocDoc iPhone App, which gives users the ability to book doctor appointments instantly from their iPhone. In addition, the ZocDoc App enables users to identify the doctors with availability who are geographically closest to them. (http://www.zocdoc.com/iphone)

ZocDoc offers more than 1.5 million available appointments at any given time with primary care physicians and dentists, as well as specialists such as dermatologists, orthopedic surgeons, allergists and psychologists. The service rapidly adopted by patients, doctors and hospitals in select cities and addresses many major problems in booking doctor appointments today:

· Long wait times to book an appointment – 20 days to see a primary care doctor on average in the U.S. and up to 50 days wait time in some cities like Dallas

· Cancelled appointments and resulting wasted doctor time and inefficiencies in serving patients

· Additional cost put on the health care system and taxpayers resulting from emergency room visits when patients are unable to book a timely doctor appointment – the average emergency room visit costs 5 times as much as a doctor visit

· Patients who want to see doctors who take their insurance and cannot efficiently find those care givers

Patients using ZocDoc are typically able to book appointments quickly, often in less than 24 hours. In fact, nearly 50 percent of patients who booked doctor appointments with ZocDoc in August 2010 made an appointment for the same day they were booking.

ZocDoc provides access to doctors' schedules in real-time, at a glance. This means time slots made available from last minute cancellations can instantly be given to another patient who may be sick or need urgent care.

The service gives users the ability to search by their insurance, and make informed decisions based on doctor reviews exclusively provided by other ZocDoc users. ZocDoc's unique and convenient scheduling system allows patients to make an appointment any time 24/7 and is completely free to use. (http://www.zocdoc.com/primary-care-doctors) ZocDoc was founded in 2007 by Cyrus Massoumi, Oliver Kharraz M.D., and Nick Ganju. The company is funded by Khosla Ventures, Founders Fund, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and Salesforce.com founder Marc Benioff. In what the Donato family hopes will be an annual event, Caddy for the Cure will raise awareness of the need for more breast cancer research and some money collected will support Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure’s walk Nov. 5-7.

FRISCO---In honor of the late Carol Ann Donato of Plano, her family will host Caddy for the Cure on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Trails of Frisco Golf Club, 10411 Teel Parkway.

Donato, a longtime Plano resident, died May 12, 2009, after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She was 61.

“Never complaining, weakened in faith or allowing anyone to pity or feel sorry for her, she lived a life that was pure and proud, and was full of spirit, love and compassion,” said her son, Jack Donato of Allen, who serves on Caddy for the Cure’s board. “She lived as we all should aspire to live.”

The Donato family intends to host Caddy for the Cure as an annual event. Registration is $100 per player, including green fee, range services, cart, buffet dinner, golf shirt, gift bag and the after party. To register, go to http://www.caddyforthecure.com.

Donations also are accepted at http://www.the3day.org/goto/JackDonato or http://www.the3day.org/goto/StephanieDonato. All donations to these two sites are tax deductible and will benefit Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure walk, scheduled for Nov. 5-7.

Sponsorships for the golf tournament also are available.

Renaissance Man (in training)

Hot Rod started his day on Saturday by coming in as the closer to save the game for his baseball team. He was brought in with bases loaded and one out with the winning run at the plate. He got the job done.
Later that night, he shot his first two doves at a friend's place just south of Greenville. He even helped clean 'em.
And, in between? He had his first rehearsal and fitting for his soldier costume for the Nutcracker. Yeah, I'd say he's a well-rounded kid.
