Ooohhh!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!

I spent a glorious hour in the care of a lovely gal named Amy last week at one of the 27 DFW area Massage Envy centers getting a Swedish massage. It was so wonderful to have that tension rubbed away. And, now I'm thinking about trying to make a massage a regular part of my self-care routine. When the PR folks at the chain asked me if I'd be willing to try out a free massage to promote their Mother's Day special offer, I jumped at the chance. It's been at least a year since my last massage and the tension in my body was equal to a cat in a rocking chair salesroom, so I knew I had to do it. I went to the Parker Square location in Flower Mound and was really glad that I did!

Best part for you North Texas folks ... The Dallas/Fort Worth area Massage Envy centers are offering a special Mother’s Day deal - buy two gift cards valued at $60 each and get a free one-hour massage session promotional gift card. This offer is only valid at the 27 DFW area Massage Envy centers and while supplies last.

At Massage Envy, an introductory one-hour massage session (a 50-minute massage and time for consultation and dressing) is $49. Memberships are available for $59 per month and include a one-hour massage session. Members can enjoy unlimited additional one-hour massage sessions at the $39 member rate.

A Country Divided

Yep, it's already started. Again. My friends in the tinfoil hats are already getting all fired up to launch their attacks and I'm sure the folks on my side of the fence are doing the same. I really hate the animosity of election time. As a member of the working media, the large majority of my friends are liberals, so it makes it all even more stressful for me as we debate our points. Some will listen and counter and banter nicely - others just get nasty. *sigh* I just know how I feel about it all and it's summed up in this jpeg.

Over the Ocean

My mom and my cousin took a trip to Germany last week. They'll return this Wednesday. Funny how you want to talk to someone when they're not there. We'll go a week without talking sometimes (not very often), but it seems like I've wanted to pick up the phone every day just to call her and tell her something or ask her something. And, it's weird that she isn't there. It also makes me think about how appreciative I should be to still have her in my life. I have several friends who have lost their moms and they remind me (alot) when I complain about mom's rants (which she does alot). Be glad she can tell you that same ancient story for the upteenth time. Those friends would give anything to hear their moms complain one more time. She'll be coming to the Casa de Army of Mom this next weekend for Easter. And, I'm really looking forward to it. As Mother's Day is approaching, too, I'm trying to think of what we can do. I'm thinking something nice is in order. But my mom is simple - she'd be just as happy sitting at the Sonic sipping a Cherry Coke as anything else. I'm thinking maybe a trip to the Arboreteum. We've never been and she'd enjoy that. Or maybe a Dallas museum. I need to start planning. And, speaking of Mother's Day, I better get the kids to working on the Mother's Day cards. We have Granny (my mom), Grandma (my MIL), two great-grandmas and Pickle's Granny, too. Not to mention all of my friends who are such wonderful moms. I'm blessed to have a plethora of good moms as friends and advisors. Got gifts you need to get or make for your moms? Shutterfly (which gave me Christmas cards that were raved over by everyone - seriously) has some suggested Mother's Day presents. There are personalized photo gifts and photobooks (which I think I'm going to get). And, then they have stuff like party invites,, too.

One of my favorite mom quotes comes from Abraham Lincoln:
All I am, or every hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.

And, one more thing: Are you a blogger? Shutterfly's giving me a cool photo book for talking about them. You can do the same thing by clicking here to sign up for a chance at 50 free cards from Shutterfly.

TMI

I've started boxing.

Yep, you read it right. I started boxing. I now even have my own wraps. I'm planning to get boxing gloves in the next few weeks.

But, the side effect is that I have aches and pains in muscle groups that I didn't realize existed on my body. The worst part? Going to the bathroom. First, my thigh muscles made me want to collapse to the floor just to squat on the potty. (imagine fire coursing through your legs, that's only a fraction of the burn that I'm still feeling) And, the even creepier aspect - reaching back to wipe my ample booty. OMG! THE PAIN! My upper arms, biceps and shoulders feel like I've had about 4,500,000 flu shots.

Oy.

But, like this sport, I do, as a Rocky Yoda would say. I've got the Eye of the Tiger and I'll be back in the gym on Tuesday sweating till I think I'm going to throw up and loving every minute of punching the bag in the borrowed pink boxing gloves. And, every person who's pissed me off in the past week is getting pictured on that bag.

Baby Eagles

Live TV : Ustream
This is so awesome. This webcam is set up on an eagle's nest and two baby chicks have been hatched and one more egg is ready to go at any time. I find myself watching this eagle family a lot. It is so fascinating to see the pair interact and watch the chicks. I just saw the mom feeding the babies and I can't help but squeal out loud!

What a great learning tool for children to watch, too.

And, my adult joke of the day comes from when my husband and I were talking about the eagles a few nights back. Long day for the hubby and we're winding down and I told him I didn't realize eagles were monogamous (this pair has been together since 2007) and he says "Yeah, eagles are monotonous. Er, I mean monogamous." Talk about a Freudian slip. :)
